Year 3 - Science day

Monday 31 March 2014

From questioning astronauts to launching rockets, year 3 had a fantastic science day on Friday. By investigating rockets of all shapes and sizes, the children designed and made their own rockets which they had great fun launching. Thank you to all the parents that made the launching so successful.

St Patrick’s Day Assembly

Friday 28 March 2014

Staff and pupils wished each other 'top of the morning' on Monday 17th March, as Hilldene Primary School celebrated St Patrick’s Day with an assembly of Irish music and dance! With the rare treat of performances of Irish tunes, expertly played on the button accordion, Irish flute and tin whistles, everyone clapped along enthusiastically...enjoying the craich! Incredibly, the entertainment was provided by talented musicians,aged from 6-16 years! Dancers energetically accompanied the music demonstrating traditional Irish dances. Finally, Hilldene's own dance club performed their own dance tribute to the Apostle of Ireland...Saint Patrick. Thank you to Miss Sloan for bringing the visitors to school, organising the performance and for entertaining everyone with her musical talents!

May the Irish hills caress you;
may her lakes and rivers bless you;
may the luck of the Irish enfold you;
may the blessings of Saint Patrick, behold you.

Year 2 - Music Festival

Wednesday 26 March 2014

On 25th March, we hosted the annual KS1 Music Festival. Our junior hall was bursting at the seams with hundreds of children from local schools - Brookside, Broadford, St Ursula's, Mead, Pyrgo and of course ours. We also had lots of important visitors such as Councillor Eric Munday (The Mayor of Havering), Mr Grifiths from Havering Music School and some of our School Governors.

We had a great time singing 6 joint songs all about 'Animals'. Each school also performed their own song. Hilldene sang a song called 'Home' which is all about animals and their habitats. We used British Sign Language signs in our song, played instruments and wore hats with different animals on them. We have been very busy getting ready!

It was a fantastic morning and we had lots of fun singing altogether. It ended perfectly with a cup of orange squash and a biscuit!

If you are a Year 2 parent, you are invited to come and listen to us perform the songs to you on Wednesday 2nd April at 2.30pm. It would be lovely to see you all.

Year 4 - The halls are alive with the sound of music!

Tuesday 25 March 2014

Year four were proud to present their own musical composition last Friday.  With the support of Mrs Wheeler and members of the London Symphony Orchestra, 4W's interpretation of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's  tone poem Scheherazade was a musical extravaganza.

With everyone having their own part to play, the budding musicians transported the listeners aboard Sinbad's ship into a treacherous storm.  Having travelled to Hilldene especially for the performance, the members of the London Symphony Orchestra exclaimed, "The children at Hilldene are some of the best behaved and talented we have ever worked with!"

Bravo!

Netball - Vs Brookside Primary

Monday 24 March 2014

After a fantastic half term of training with Mrs Madden, the Netball team finally triumphed at their netball game against Brookside on Wednesday. The game started with a tense first half with a few close goals. Showing incredible determination, the team did not give up and stayed in good spirits. The second half became Hilldene's moment to shine with 5 goals in 6 minutes. A fantastic way to finish the league and a very proud moment for Hilldene.

Year 1 - Toy Visitor

Wednesday 19 March 2014

Year One had a visitor from the Freshwater Theatre Company. He brought in lots of different toys for us to look at and we went on an imaginary visit to the Toy Museum. We learnt lots about how toys have changed over the years and looked at teddy bears, dolls and moving toys.

Year 1 - World Book Day

Year One had a very enjoyable day dressing up for World Book Day (06/03/14). We had a great big book swap and year five children came over to share books with us. We had lots of fun!

Parents - Coins for Hospice

We are collecting one and two pence coins for Saint Francis Hospice. Every Friday until Easter we will be collecting coins and the School Council are placing them on large letters that spell St Francis Hospice. We hope to raise lots of money to help the Hospice repair their roof that was damaged in the recent bad weather. Please keep sending in your spare change!
