Reception - Chick Videos

Friday 26 February 2016

Spring has sprung in Reception this week with the arrival of 10 new chicks!

Our Reception classes received an exciting delivery of 10 chicken eggs from Living Eggs earlier this week.  They were carefully kept warm  in an incubator while the expectant pupils waited patiently for the fluffy arrivals. On Wednesday some cracks started to appear in the eggs and chirping could be heard from inside them! Slowly, one by one, the cracks became bigger and very soon our proud pupils welcomed all 10 new chirping chicks!

Watch our videos to see how it happened...

Year 6 - Kung-Fu Experts

Thursday 25 February 2016

Year 6 celebrated Chinese New Year by learning martial arts. A great deal of stretching and bending was involved. High kicks and air punching caused a lot of amusement  and some perspiration!
Although some of the moves weren't easy, everyone had great fun. What a fantastic way to keep fit!

Hilldene Make a Difference

Monday 15 February 2016

On Tuesday, the school council members from each of the schools in the Harold Hill cluster, worked together to make a change in the community.

On the day, each school was assigned a job to carry out which included; making a care box for the local women's refuge, visiting a local care home and being a part of the food bank's daily routine. These are just some of the ways in which the children learnt how they could make a difference.

Hilldene had the rewarding job of visiting the local food bank to sort all the food that had been donated by us!

The total weight of the food we donated weighed 400kg! So thank you to all of you for your generous donations, it was greatly received by the food bank.

The children behaved in a respectful manner towards all of the adults we met and thoroughly enjoyed the day. We learnt that 'all successful teams are greater than the sum of their individual parts.'  We can achieve even more when we all act together. How can you make a difference in your community?

Year 4 - Gymmnastics Competition

On the last day of half term year 4 conducted a gymnastics competition in which all the children took part. The children completed a vault, floor and body management section competing as part of their house teams. The School Games Crew were the judges rating each individual out of ten on each section.

Thursday 11 February 2016

Mr Winch and Miss Dhillon took the gardening club children to B&Q this week to buy some seeds, plants and a colourful bird ornament for Miss Milligan's remembrance garden.  Children came back and put the seeds in the birdhouse and will be planting the flowers after half term.
