Year 3 - Library trip

Monday, 17 February 2020

Last week, Year 3 enjoyed a windy walk to Hilldene library. The excited children were given the opportunity to explore the library and learn about all the different services they provide. The adults on the trip were extremely proud of the children's exceptional behaviour to and in the library!

Year 1 - We are TV Chefs

We have had lots of fun working as TV chefs in our Topic lessons this week, take a look at what we made!

Year 5 - Cricket

For the whole of this half term 5R and 5W have been lucky enough to receive some additional cricket sessions from a Chance to Shine coach, organised by Essex County Cricket Club. During this time they have developed a number of skills associated with cricket, including bowling, batting and catching.

Both classes have also had the opportunity to play several matches at the end of their lessons, something they particularly enjoyed taking part in. Bring on the summer and more opportunities to take part in cricket lessons!

Year 2 - Computing

Wednesday, 12 February 2020

We are researchers! We have had lots of fun using the computers and laptops to carry out research and create PowerPoint presentations. It was important to ensure that we followed simple instructions to insert text and images. On Tuesday, we celebrated safer internet day by discussing safety rules and reading different stories about staying safe.

Hilldene supports Safer Internet Day

Tuesday 11th February was Safer Internet Day.
Hilldene Primary supported this event by sharing assemblies, stories and activities in class.

4W - Idling Action Event

Monday, 10 February 2020

On Friday 31st January, 4W took part in an Anti-Idling event. The children spent the morning learning all about pollution effects on the world we live and what we can do to have a positive impact on our environment.

In the afternoon, our visitor lead an assembly to educate and inform all children in KS2 about the impact of idling.

The day concluded with the children actively raising awareness out on the roadside, talking to any drivers who were idling (sat stationary with their engines on). It was a very successful event and it has certainly had an impact in the way our class now see cars on the road.

The children have learnt a lot from the event and want to spread a very clear message for you all - Don't be an idler, turn off your engines!

Maths Day in Year 4

The children spent Maths Day 2020 looking at a range of puzzling mathematical challenges. The children spent time working with the number 42, finding different routes to the number and what made the number so fantastic.

They also worked with tangrams and pentominoes, working collaboratively to solve a number of challenging puzzles. Well done to all the children in Year 4 for taking part and working hard!
