There were lots and lots of excited faces in the Key Stage 2 playground yesterday morning, on our return to school after the half term holiday. The reason – new playground markings to explore for all the children, including a snakes and ladders game, an active zone and a new 5-a-side football pitch.

As you can see from the images below, despite the 'miserable’ weather at breaktime, the children still managed to really enjoy interacting with the new playground markings. Let’s hope the weather improves this week, so the children can continue to explore and enjoy these new resources...

School Dinner Price Increase

Havering Catering Services have advised of a small price increase for school meals from September 1st 2019. Please see the letter below which explains that the current price will be going up by 5p from £2.20 to £2.25 (per meal).

Year 5 - Secondary School Transfer Process

The Havering School Admissions Team is keen for every parent of a Year 5 pupil to be made fully aware of the Secondary School transfer process. 

As a parent of a Year 5 child, you must apply for a secondary school place between 1 September 2019 and 31 October 2019. 

For pupils starting Secondary school in September 2019, 77% of Havering pupils were offered their 1st preference. 93% were offered one of their top 3 preferences, making us the best Local Authority in London for meeting parental preference (London average 66% 1st Preference & 86% top 3 Preferences). 

In order to make sure that every parent is fully informed of the admissions process, we are inviting you to book onto and attend one of the free presentation evenings being held across the borough in July 2019. 

It is highly recommended that you attend one of these meetings. You will be provided with lots of useful information including details of key dates as well as details of when the secondary school open evenings are.

Child safety on TikTok

TikTok is a video-sharing app. Users can upload and share short videos of themselves lip-syncing to songs or acting out comedy sketches, and add special effects. They can gain followers (‘fans’) and browse other people’s videos.

You may have heard of the app by its previous name: Musical.ly. Everything that was on Musical.ly is now on TikTok. If your child previously had a Musical.ly account they will be able to access their content on TikTok.

This factsheet is designed to help make sure parents are aware of the main risks associated with the video-sharing app TikTok. It includes practical steps that parents can take to protect their children.

Children’s Mental Health Week

This week (4-10 February 2019) is Children’s Mental Health Week.
The week was set up by the children’s mental health charity Place2Be to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health.
This year’s theme is Healthy: Inside and Out – we’re encouraging everyone to think about how they look after their bodies and minds.
