Despite the wet and windy weather everyone has thrown
themselves into the Stubbers experience and enjoyed a day of fun filled
activities!
Year 5 - Stubbers

Our year 4 scientists have been exploring the link
between sound and vibration in a range of fun, but noisy, activities.
Luckily for the other year groups, the sun was shining
last Thursday when year 4 began experimenting with drums and rice, guitars, cups
linked with string and a variety of other instruments on the field.
By observing how these instruments created noises we
discovered a link between sound and vibrations, concluding that sound is In
fact a vibration passed through the air and received in our ears. We will be finding out how the ear
understands these vibrations next week.

This was the question
posed to inquisitive children in year 3 last week at the onset of their studies
of the 7 life processes. In order for the budding scientists to test their
predictions, they have planted 2 identical flowering plants and then removed
the leaves from one of them. Having measured the height of both of the plants
first, the children will continue to measure them for the next 4 weeks and
record their results inorder to be able to answer the question. With the
majority of the happy horticulturists predicting that the plant with leaves
will grow taller than the one without...the children and staff are keenly
watching the progress of the plants!
Watch this space for the
results!

Every week, teachers identify 2 outstanding
pupils in their class who have had a fantastic week either academically or
socially or both! These pupils are entered into the Golden Book and are
announced during our Friday morning celebration assembly. Our fabulous winners
in the infants receive a certificate in assembly and parents of the 'golden'
children in the juniors receive a letter home, informing parents of their
child's fantastic achievement.

Last Tuesday in Year 1 we
spoke about what we wanted to do when we grow up. Everyone came dressed up for
their future careers. As you can see, amongst us we have doctors, firemen,
police women and zoo keepers in the making... and many more! An exciting
day was had by all.

Holiday Model Making!
With
an interest in model making and History, one of Hilldene's Year 3 pupils was
very busy during the Easter holiday constructing a model of the most well known
prehistoric stone monument in the world...Stonehenge! With the assistance of
his dad and some Jenga blocks , Logan enjoyed spending time learning about the
amazing monument and creating an incredible model. and fact file. The
impressive piece of work is now on display in the junior library.
Well done Logan!
