Part of the remit of the school council this year was to improve the outdoor area for KS2 pupils. The first part of this process has now been completed - the new playground signs, that were chosen by the school council, have been put up around the main playground area and have already created lots of interest amongst the pupils.

Part two of the process will hopefully take place during the spring half term (weather permitting) and involves new playground markings.

Once this project has been finished, we will begin to consult the children on possible improvements for the KS1 playground area. However, such improvements are likely to place during/after the summer holidays.

Taking Steps Magazine Launch

Over the past week, last year’s Year 5 JTAs have been leading assemblies in KS1 and KS2 explaining to the rest of the school their role in helping to edit the latest edition of Taking Steps magazine. The theme for this edition was cycling and the magazine is distributed to all schools in Havering, including secondary schools, which means over 20,000 children will receive a copy of this magazine! Among the topics covered by our JTAs in this edition were Bikeability, Bike Polo Club and riding along cycle route Sustrans 136. Well done to our JTAs!

Harold Hill School Council Alliance Meeting

On Tuesday afternoon of 20th November, two of our Year 6 school councillors attended a Harold Hill School Council Alliance meeting at Broadford Primary School to discuss the focus for the alliance schools this year. It was decided at the meeting that the children will be concentrating on recycling issues and keeping the local community clean and tidy. Before the next meeting, a poster competition will be launched in each school to design a mascot for the campaign.

HHSCA Visit Mead Primary

Our three school council representatives from Year 4 definitely enjoyed the latest meeting of the Harold Hill School Council Alliance at Mead Primary School. After completing the discussion about the new healthy eating policy being designed by the alliance, it was off to the farm to say hello to the animals!

Harold Hill School Council Alliance

Hilldene School Council representatives Ria and Teddie attended the latest meeting of the Harold Hill School Council Alliance held at Drapers’ Pyrgo Primary School on Tuesday 23rd May. Despite being the first pupils to stand up in front of all the other schools, both pupils spoke clearly and with great enthusiasm about marking and feedback at Hilldene to the rest of the group.

Without a doubt, a wave of pride washed over Mr White and Mrs Houghton as they watched the confident children take the stand and represent their school. Not surprisingly, both Ria and Teddie really enjoyed the visit and are excited to lead the next School Council meeting to set up introduce the next alliance initiative – school lunches and healthy eating. Watch out Theresa May!

HHSCA Logo Competition

On Friday we announced the winners of the Harold Hill School Council Alliance Logo Competition.
This alliance has been set up for school councils to work together in order to improve the provision across Harold Hill schools. Congratulations to our winner, Tia, and runner up Callum and Zayn. Tia's entry will now go head to head with the winning designs from other schools in Harold Hill to find the final logo for the new alliance.
