Every week, teachers identify 2 outstanding pupils in their class who
have had a fantastic week either academically or socially or both! These
pupils are entered into the Golden Book and are announced during our
Friday morning celebration assembly. Our fabulous winners in the infants
receive a
certificate in assembly and parents of the 'golden' children in the
juniors receive a letter home, informing parents of their child's
fantastic achievement.

On Tuesday 13th of November, four children from year 6 went to The Mawney Foundation School's Able Maths Day. They experienced a range of problem solving activities from 'The Money Maze' to creating factorials. The children particularly enjoyed making their very own 'A-Z of maths' tablecloth. They are now keen to share their new learning with the rest of Year 6 although they will need some Marigold gloves to explain one way of working out some of the trickier times tables! All the children were an absolute credit to the school throughout the trip - fantastic!

On Tuesday 21st of March 4 of our Hilldene children attended the second session of the Harold Hill year 6 Maths league at Pyrgo . Five local schools send a team of children to compete against each other in a maths quiz, which consists of 20 gruelling questions that need to be completed in a dazzling 40 minutes. The pressure was on as Hilldene won the first round back in the Autumn term and we wanted to continue our winning streak. Thankfully our maths stars shone through and managed to win once again. With 2 rounds remaining Hilldene are sitting pretty at the top of the league and are striving to stay there, always striving to be better. Well done Hilldene.

It is with immense pride that I inform you that Hilldene Primary has achieved the prestigious NACE Challenge Award for excellence in provision for able, gifted and talented pupils.
We are the 358th school nationally to achieve the prestigious NACE Challenge Award which is given for high quality work by the whole school, teachers and governors, in challenging all pupils, including those with high abilities, to continue to strive to be better.
NACE Chief Executive Hilary Lowe said: “Hilldene Primary School has worked hard to win the NACE Challenge Award status. It has shown itself to be committed to developing a school and providing an education where all pupils are challenged to improve and strive to be better.”
Assessors, for the award, were impressed by the strong leadership and management of provision which keeps the needs of more able learners at the forefront of the school’s work, supported effectively by governors. They judged the quality of the school’s work by observing lessons, interviewing the pupils, teachers, parents and governors and by looking at the pupils’ work.
The accreditation was made on the basis of the high quality and commitment they saw across the school.
Well done everyone...fantastic recognition of our journey so far!

Hilldene throws down the gauntlet
Despite the wet weather last week, many parents attended the Challenge afternoon led by Anne Nelson (borough adviser) and supported by Mrs Mckinnon. With a focus on how to engage in open-ended learning tasks, the brave parents embraced the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed taking part in an afternoon of interactive activities. Following this, they visited classes where they saw their children participating in similar activities. Thank you to all the parents for their support and attendance and to Ann Nelson and Mrs McKinnon for organising such an informative and worthwhile event.
