Maths Day in Year 4

Monday, 10 February 2020

The children spent Maths Day 2020 looking at a range of puzzling mathematical challenges. The children spent time working with the number 42, finding different routes to the number and what made the number so fantastic.

They also worked with tangrams and pentominoes, working collaboratively to solve a number of challenging puzzles. Well done to all the children in Year 4 for taking part and working hard!

Key Stage 2 Maths Day Competition

On Friday, we celebrated MathsDay2020 with a teacher competition during assembly. Each class in Key Stage 2 had a member of staff representing them in a times tables challenge. During the competition the children were enthused, excited and inspired by the speed of the answers the staff were showing.

Ultimately, the competition concluded in a final round competed between Miss Winch and Mrs O'Kelly, with Mrs O'Kelly being crowned the MathsDay Champion 2020.

Year 2 - Maths Day

Friday, 7 February 2020

What a fantastic day! We have been extremely busy in Year 2 today and have enjoyed our maths day. We discovered that the answer is not the end, it is just the beginning. We measured the length and height of different objects and measured the volume of liquid in different containers. We went on a maths hunt this morning to discover our secret number. It’s 18...shhh!

Year 5 - Maths Day

Today is maths day! Year 5 have been experimenting with the skills they have learnt this year. They were given the number of 2,020 as their number for the day. They created calculations and word problems with the answer 2,020.

Year 5 also researched 20 different scientific symbols and mathematicians. They created posters explaining what they found.

Their final activity which they participated in was creating Fibonacci spirals. They learnt what a Fibonacci number was then used these skills to create different spiral patterns using these numbers.

Year 5 had lots of fun and worked very hard today!
