Road Safety: The Riot Act

Monday, 20 January 2020

Years 5 and 6 watched a road safety performance this afternoon. The performance explained what to do when walking down the road. After the performance a workshop took place reinforcing the key messages of what to do when crossing a road.

Key points to remember are:
Cross at a safe place
Do not listen to loud music when crossing as you can not hear traffic
Keep phones away to make sure your full attention is on the road

Remember your safety is important!

Year 6 - Miles the Mole

Thursday, 21 November 2019

On Wednesday 20th November, year 6 were entertained by a show based around air quality and featuring Miles the Mole. We learnt what individuals can do to improve the quality of the air locally and how, by taking simple preventative steps, we can reduce our exposure to polluted air. Although this is a serious subject, it was a thoroughly enjoyable performance and a great way to help everyone see how we can all play a part in helping to protect our environment.

Year 6 - Braintree Museum

Monday, 11 November 2019

In order to support their learning about World War II, Year 6 visited Braintree Museum. Travelling back in time to 1939, the children experienced a dramatic air-raid and subsequent evacuation to the countryside. They were also able to see and touch a range of historical artefacts: pieces of bombs, identity cards, ration books, chamber pots and tins of powdered egg to name but a few.

A variety of military uniforms and other items of clothing were modelled by the young historians. There was even a 1940's wedding dress made from a parachute, which was resourcefully created by a young bride when fabric was rationed. It was an extremely interesting day and the children were able to see history come to life.

Year 6 - Maths

Friday, 1 November 2019

This week year 6 have been investigating prime numbers, factors and multiples, as well as square and cube numbers. It's been a very busy time.  A cube number is a number multiplied by itself 3 times. Using multi-link cubes we made a variety of cubes. The biggest cube was 8 x 8 x 8 which used 512 cubes! They were fun to make and involved a lot of team work.
