Public libraries are also now open and offering a full browse and borrow service. Guidelines are being followed in terms of social distancing, wearing of face masks, hand sanitiser stations and limited numbers permitted in the building at any one time. SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

This year the summer reading challenge is a bit different, instead of visiting your local library, it is online. The theme is silly squad and it is celebrating books that make you laugh and feel happy. The silly squad are a group of unusual animals that love adventure and fun. They adore reading and playing games. There are badges to earn along your journey, games to play and a certificate to print if you manage to complete the challenge. If you would like to take part you will need to register and create an account with the summer reading challenge website, all of the information you need will be there as well as lots more fun and create ideas.

Year 5 - Writing to persuade

In Year 5, we have been writing to persuade. Before we did this, we had a class debate about whether Aunt Glo and Rashid should contact the press as their son has disappeared. Surprisingly Year 5 were were extremely good at arguing their point using evidence from the text.

We then used the information from the debate to write to persuade the reader. The last part of the journey was to edit our work.

We used editing stations to remain focused with what we needed to include. These stations included; punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, uplevelling words and spelling. Here are some pictures of our editing stations.

World Book Day Competition Winners

Here are the winners of the 100 word competition set in school last week for Book Week. The children wrote a variety of stories, one even rhymed in the style of Dr Seuss.

Year 3 - World Book Week

Year 3 loved celebrating World Book day all last week with the Dr Seuss classic 'The Lorax'. During the week year 3 enjoyed looking at why the Lorax was so devastated with the Once-ler cutting down his trees. The concerned children decided to become the Lorax and 'speak for the trees!' and clearly spread the message that trees are vital to our living through leaflet writing, collage and setting descriptions.

To top of the fantastic week, all the children and adults dressed up on Friday. The children looked fantastic and enjoyed a Dr Seuss filled day.
