Toddler Group Helpers!
Wednesday, 22 July 2015
Thank you to all the children in Year 6 who have assisted Mrs Elliott throughout the year in Toddler Group. Without fail, each week the hardworking helpers have set up the equipment before school and returned during their break time to tidy up after the toddlers. Undoubtedly, toddler group couldn't run without their unwavering commitment and dedication...well done and thank you!
100% Attendance
Congratulations to all the pupils who came to school
everyday of this academic year and achieved a gold attendance award!
Well done and keep it up!
Year 6 - Leavers Assembly
Emotions ran high this week as pupils, staff and parents
celebrated the last days of term with mixed feelings. Children and staff were
excited to break up for the Summer Holidays but we also had to say a fond
farewell to Year 6 pupils leaving for secondary school and staff leaving for
new jobs.
An inspirational Leavers' Assembly found Year 6
reminiscing about their time at our school that included many memorable
moments. After all the emotion, a delicious lunch of burgers, pizza and chicken
(chosen by the pupils) was served to Year 6 pupils by the staff who have worked
with them all year.
It's always difficult to say goodbye but we're so proud
of the progress that the children have made academically and socially in their
time at Hilldene.

The children in the nursery had a great week last week celebrating Shine Week! We got to try Thai dancing which was great fun and our teacher was wearing some beautiful clothes, especially her hat which was shiny and gold. Next we made a big elephant to remember Miss Milligan, we used a big cardboard box which Mrs Gildersleve cut up, we painted it grey and then used salad spinners to spin paint onto paper plates and attached them to our elephant. To make our elephants face and ears we used paper which we covered with lots of colourful handprints, it was lots of fun! Our busy week continued with food tasting, Mrs Hutt cooked us some Thai Green Curry with rice, prawn crackers and spring rolls...it was delicious!
Nursery - Peter Pan Day
On Friday the children in the nursery celebrated Peter Pan Day! We had a great time dressed as pirates, shipmates, princesses and fairies! As soon as we arrived at nursery the fun began with pass the parcel, dancing and lots of games. Next Captain Careless arrived, he had lost his treasure and we helped him find it...he was very funny and a bit silly! After all that fun we went out into the garden and had a delicious picnic.
Thank you to everyone for making the day so much fun!

Hilldene's Toddler Group celebrated the end of the summer
term with a fantastic party last week. The energetic toddlers played
games, sang and danced, ate delicious food and wished the children
whose birthdays are in the holidays a very 'Happy Birthday'. Sadly,
they all said a fond farewell to all the toddlers who
are moving on to Nursery in September and to the Year 6 helpers
who are going to Secondary School.
We wish our families a very healthy, happy and safe holiday.
Many thanks for your support throughout the term.
School Council
Hilldene's School Council met for the final time last week to
share their successes and achievements with members of the governing body and
their parents.
Whilst enjoying juice and biscuits, the confident
councillors shared information about the charity day they had
organised to support the Rainbow Trust; the impact they had on improving
school meals and their involvement with the rebranding of the school. Parents and governors asked questions about
their roles which they answered eloquently.
Thank you to all members of the School Council for all your
hard work throughout the year. Weekly Golden Book Winners!
Every week, teachers identify 2 outstanding
pupils in their class who have had a fantastic week either academically or
socially or both! These pupils are entered into the Golden Book and are
announced during our Friday morning celebration assembly. Our fabulous winners
in the infants receive a certificate in assembly and parents of the 'golden'
children in the juniors receive a letter home, informing parents of their
child's fantastic achievement.
Congratulations to last week's winners:
Reception - Roshni, Jessie, Alfie, Alissa, Olivia, Paris

Reception - SHINE week was fantastic!
In
Reception classes, we enjoyed the Thai dancing and the lady who taught
us had beautiful clothes on. Yummy food tasting happened within
the 'temple' where we had to take our shoes off and sit 'Thai style'. The foods
we tried included: crackers, pancakes and spring rolls. Later in the week, we
made creative elephant collages with paper plates and tissue paper. Finally, we
all worked on a large scale bottle topped elephant.

Each week a ‘Writer of the week’ is selected from every
class for special effort or achievement in writing. These children are rewarded
at our celebration assembly with a certificate and their work is displayed in
school.
Year 6 - We'll Meet Again
Year 6 amazed their
families and friends with their production of 'We'll Meet Again' this week.
The World War Two themed
play recapped all the children have learnt from their topic earlier this
year, particularly children's experiences as evacuees during the war.
The children were
praised for their fantastic singing and talented acting, with everyone
supporting each other throughout the performance.
Go Run for Fun
Ten lucky Year 6
children visited the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford this week to
take part in the 'Go Run for Fun' event.
Dressed in their bright
pink race t-shirts, the children took part in a mass warm-up and watched
interviews with famous Olympians including Colin Jackson and Daley Thompson
before setting off on the course around the park.
As the course was over a
mile long, the children needed to pace themselves but everyone thoroughly
enjoyed the event, encouraging them to take part in more fun runs in the future
- some were keen to run the race again!
Spelling Bee
Children
from KS1 and KS2 took part in the annual spelling bee at Drapers Academy this
week.
The competition was fierce and the results were very close!
We are very proud to announce that both teams from Hilldene came second with only 0.5 between us and the winning team in the KS2 competition.
Well done to all the children that participated and fingers crossed for first place next year!
