Enrico Bertelli and his team from Conductive Music CIC
visited us last Wednesday for a morning of making music! During this science/music session, the
children warmed up using body percussion and progressed to rhythmic
composition. Then they each drew an
instrument using graphite pencils to create a graphite-based circuit. Once this drawing was connected to a
MakeyMakey board and a PC, the children were able to play their
picture/instrument! Children from St
Ursula's also joined us for a session.
We had a lot of fun!

Every week, teachers identify 2 outstanding pupils in their class who have had
a fantastic week either academically or socially or both! These pupils are
entered into the Golden Book and are announced during our Friday
morning celebration assembly. Our fabulous winners in the infants receive a
certificate in assembly and parents of the 'golden' children in the juniors receive a
letter home, informing parents of their child's fantastic achievement.

Children in Need
Congratulations
and huge thanks to generous pupils, parents and staff for raising a
whopping £663 for Children in Need last Friday.
An action packed day of fund raising was enjoyed by all, dressed in their favourite hero costumes. Scrumptious cakes were baked, sold and devoured to raise money for this fantastic cause.
Well done and thank you - you are all Hilldene Heroes!

The Hilldene team
played their second game of the season against Pyrgo last week. After quickly
going 2-0 down the boys tightened up their defence and looked the better team
for much of the game; with Henoc scoring to make it 2-1 before half time.
Unfortunately, the game ended 5-1 after a late surge of attacks from Pyrgo, who
have some very talented players. A special mention must go to goalkeeper
Bradley, who kept Hilldene in the game with some very impressive and brave
goalkeeping. The team must get back to winning ways when they play against St
Ursusla's next week!

A special Remembrance Assembly was
held on Wednesday morning to commemorate Armistice day,
particularly remembering those in our own community who have suffered
loss. Poppy wreaths, which were made by the pupils, were laid
whilst the pupils sang a memorial song and kept those people
affected by war in their thoughts. Amongst the traditional red
poppies, a blue wreath was laid by one of our French Ambassadors.
The Bleuet de France (Cornflower) was adopted by France to commemorate
Armistice Day, as they were - along with poppies- the only flowers that still
grew on the various battlefields.
Mud stained clothes and bleary eyes,
endless fields and cold, grey skies.
Running, fighting, marching on,
soon, most of these men would be all gone.
Flanders Field is where they lie,
and in our hearts they'll never die.
Now the poppies we wear tell a story
of how these men brought home glory.

It is been a very messy week in reception! Children have
been busy rescuing dinosaurs from the sticky swamp and exploring the sparkly
fairy rice. Everyone has also made a beautiful firework picture and thought
carefully about how to keep safe on bonfire night.
