On Monday 19th June four boys and four girls in Years 2-6 from Hilldene Primary joined children from seven other primary schools in the area to compete at the Drapers Sports Day. Despite the soaring temperatures and heat on the day, all of the children really enjoyed themselves on what was a brilliant event.
A big thank you to all the parents who came along to support their children on the day of the event.

Last week we welcomed the latest member of staff to Hilldene Primary. Mr Robert Mansell has joined the school as the new Deputy Headteacher after previously being Head of PE at Campion Secondary School and also part of the Strategic Leadership Team at St. Patrick's School.
Mr Mansell has said that it really excites him to be here at Hilldene Primary and is looking forward to getting to know all of the staff, pupils and the parents of Hilldene Primary, as well as the wider Harold Hill community. He hopes to enhance the school's already good reputation through his years of experience and impact on what is already a very good team here at Hilldene.
On behalf of all the staff at Hilldene Primary, Welcome Mr Mansell!

Thank you to all the parents who came to our RWI stay and play. We are so impressed with the way the children are learning their letter sounds. They have enjoyed making the letters out of playdoh, finding hidden objects beginning with the sounds in the sand and writing the letters in glitter.

Hilldene School Council representatives Ria and Teddie attended the latest meeting of the Harold Hill School Council Alliance held at Drapers’ Pyrgo Primary School on Tuesday 23rd May. Despite being the first pupils to stand up in front of all the other schools, both pupils spoke clearly and with great enthusiasm about marking and feedback at Hilldene to the rest of the group.
Without a doubt, a wave of pride washed over Mr White and Mrs Houghton as they watched the confident children take the stand and represent their school. Not surprisingly, both Ria and Teddie really enjoyed the visit and are excited to lead the next School Council meeting to set up introduce the next alliance initiative – school lunches and healthy eating. Watch out Theresa May!

Community project
Our Year 5 'Junior Travel Ambassadors' (JTAs) have been extremely busy over the last couple of weeks gathering information which will help us in our quest to improve road safety and traffic concerns on Straight Road.
Together with both St Ursula's Infant and Junior Schools, our JTAs have been attending meetings with the council, leading school assemblies and carrying out playground surveys in order to gather information from pupils and local residents on the matter. We aim to put together a long term plan which outlines ways to improve the daily commute to and from school for the benefit of pupils, parents and local residents.
