Year 5 - Internet Safety
Wednesday, 6 February 2019
The year five children have been learning how poor online behaviour can cause distress or upset to others. We spoke about what we should do if this happens to us while we are online. We looked at digital footprints and how our searches can be traced to our computers.
As it is Internet Safety Day, we also looked at the importance of having secure passwords and making up sentences to help us remember them.
Year 1 - Maths Together Morning
Year 1 really enjoyed their ‘maths together
morning’ where they demonstrated their number and shape knowledge using all the
exciting resources we have in school.

TikTok is a video-sharing app. Users can upload and share short videos of themselves lip-syncing to songs or acting out comedy sketches, and add special effects. They can gain followers (‘fans’) and browse other people’s videos.
You may have heard of the app by its previous name: Musical.ly. Everything that was on Musical.ly is now on TikTok. If your child previously had a Musical.ly account they will be able to access their content on TikTok.
This factsheet is designed to help make sure parents are aware of the main risks associated with the video-sharing app TikTok. It includes practical steps that parents can take to protect their children.

This week (4-10 February 2019) is Children’s Mental Health Week.
The week was set up by the children’s mental health charity Place2Be to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health.
This year’s theme is Healthy: Inside and Out – we’re encouraging everyone to think about how they look after their bodies and minds.
Please see tips for parents and children.

This afternoon years 5 and 6 had a road safety workshop. We watched a performance and then discussed what happened. We also learnt about the importance of wearing safety clothing and what could happen if we didn't.
The key message we learnt is that it's important to not feel influenced by others and to keep safe when travelling.

Year 1 - Internet
In Year 1 this half term the children have been learning what the internet is and how people use the internet. They have discussed how using computer devices too often can be bad for us and how we should take time out from technology to do other things. Parents and carers remember it is better to share books at bedtime and maybe reduce the amount of time your child spends using screens before going to bed.
