On Wednesday, Reception pupils, staff and parents spent a lovely, sunny day at Marsh Farm enjoying a whole host of exciting activities.  Feeding the goats and sheep, collecting eggs from the chicken coup and watching a milking demonstration, enabled the children to experience what life may be like for a farmer. Without a doubt, the highlight of the day was  a very bumpy tractor ride - which everyone enjoyed and giggled their way through!

The children were extremely well behaved and all the adults were very proud of their sensible behaviour. 

Well done to the  Reception pupils and thank you to the parents for their help and support! 

Year 3 Assembly 11/6/14

Year 3 children took great delight in showing off their learning through Maths, Literacy, Science, Art and Dance on a very warm Wednesday afternoon. A fantastic turn out of parents, grandparents, carers and friends were thoroughly entertained and impressed by the range of activities and learning that has been going on this term.

Year 6 - Fit for Life!

As part of their topic, Fit for Life, pupils in Year 6 have been learning about the benefits of exercise as well as improving their personal skills and stamina. With blue skies and summer sunshine, an energetic afternoon was spent participating in a variety of athletic pursuits.  Activities included vortex throw, standing jump, triple jump, bean bag throw and 100m sprint. 

Although the weather was warm, everyone was thoroughly enthusiastic. Competition was rife as the scores were recorded and personal bests were achieved and beaten. The atmosphere was supportive, new skills were learnt and there was much cheering and encouraging. Those children who prove themselves to be the most talented athletes will win a place on our school athletics team to compete at Drapers Intra-School Sports Competition. The team will be announced on Friday morning in celebration assembly. 

SHHH! We're bird watching!

In Year 6, we have been increasing our awareness of the local environment by learning about the variety of birds around our school. Even though it has involved quiet and concentration, we have discovered new talents as budding ornithologists!

Equipped with cameras we successfully spotted sparrows, starlings, pied wagtails, pigeons, a robin, a wren, blue tits, magpies and lots of crows. Next, we used recycled bottles and yoghurt pots to make bird feeders. A variety of recipes were created involving mixtures of dried fruit, seeds, lard and nuts.

Now we will wait and watch to see whose creations prove most popular with our feathered friends.

Hilldene Weekly Golden Book Winners

Every week, teachers identify 2 outstanding pupils in their class who have had a fantastic week either academically or socially or both! These pupils are entered into the Golden Book and are announced during our Friday morning celebration assembly. Our fabulous winners in the infants receive a certificate in assembly and parents of the 'golden' children in the juniors receive a letter home, informing parents of their child's fantastic achievement.

Hilldene Go Blue!

A sea of blue washed through the school on Friday as the pupils dressed in blue to celebrate our seas in recognition of World Environment Day.

World Environment Day celebrates and raises awareness of the work of the United Nations Environment Programme. You can find out more about their work here.

During assembly the caring children considered ways in which they could contribute and help the environment they live in. Whether it be to turn the tap off when brushing our teeth or to walk instead of taking the bus; everyone can make a difference!
 
10 Ways to Save the Planet! 

School Games Crew

On Wednesday afternoon, the School Games Crew were given their first training session by a representative from the Havering Sports collective. All crew members are working hard to get to grips with their new roles and responsibilities as ambassadors of sport at Hilldene.

After a long session of decision making, the Sports Crew have now organised an Athletics tournament for children in Year 3 called 'Tri Kids'.
