In Year 1 we have been reading The Lonely Beast by Chris
Judge. We have really enjoyed this story
and were so pleased that it ended happily as we were concerned that the Beast
would remain lonely forever. The story
has inspired us to produce some fantastic writing and our teachers are very
proud!

Nursery - Homemade Crisps
Recently the children in
the Nursery made their own crisps. Using scissors, they cut the tortilla wraps
into triangles and then brushed them with oil. Into the oven until they went
until they were were crispy and delicious. Then for the best bit... devouring
them at the snack table with dips. Yummy!!

On Tuesday afternoon a team of four super mathematicians from Year 6
travelled to Explore Learning in Romford to take part in the National Young
Mathematicians' Award. The children had
to demonstrate the ability to work as a team as well as being able to find
solutions to a very difficult puzzle. The judges graded the children marks for their team work skills as well
as their solutions. We are now eagerly
awaiting the results and hope the team will progress to the second round of the
competition.

It has been a busy week
for the Hilldene netball team this week with matches against neighbouring
schools on the calendar.
Monday evening saw the
first match against Pyrgo. On their home territory, the Hilldene team felt
confident and secure and this was demonstrated through their outstanding
performance. With their team captained by Jayden and coached by Mrs Madden they
were victorious with a whopping 8-1 win!
Elated by their victory
on Monday, the team then faced the Mead netball team on Tuesday. Despite the
afternoon turning dark and the weather turning bitter, the Hilldene children
kept the smile on their faces and determination in their play. Following a
close match, with both teams playing brilliantly, Mead managed to sneak victory
by 4 goals to 3.
Staff, parents and class
mates are all very proud of the hard work and commitment the team have put in
to prepare for these games and hope to continue with the success in forthcoming
games. Thank you to Mrs Madden, who has worked extremely hard with the team.
