Hilldene pupils have been working hard to improve their
athleticism over the last few weeks and competing, in year groups, to win a
chance to attend the Harold Hill Sports day. Children were selected from years
2,3,4,5 and 6 for the annual event , which is held at Drapers Academy.
Once teams were picked, kits were cleaned, trainers were
polished and an excited team of 40 eager
athletes travelled to the track, all hopeful of winning a medal. With the sun
bursting through the clouds the day was filled with cheers and excitement as
the children valiantly competed in a plethora of events : Vortex throwing, sprinting, long jump and
relay.
At the end of a long day of sport, tired but still
excited, the children waited patiently for the results to be announced. Raucous
cheers erupted through the Hilldene camp as the announcement was made that the
Year 5 team scored the highest amount of points for their year group category!
Silence then fell as all the Harold Hill athletes anxiously awaited the overall
results of the day. Nails were bitten... lips were chewed...hands were wrung.
Finally, it was announced - 3rd place
Broadford Primary, 2nd place Hilldene Primary and 1st place (by a
margin) St Ursulas Junior School!
Congratulations Hilldene!
All staff are
extremely proud of the children's achievements and their fantastic behaviour
throughout the day.
Thank you to all the staff that went along to help cheer
the children on and well done to everyone that competed in school and the
children that attended the Sports day.
Great sports success all around!
