Year 1 - D&T
Wednesday, 25 May 2016
We have been wearing our creative caps in Year 1 this week to make some fantastic moveable vehicles in Design and Technology. Our first task was to carry out some research. Using some toy cars from school for inspiration, as well as what we learnt at the London Transport Museum, we discussed how the wheels of a vehicle are able to move. We then worked in pairs to design and create some unique vehicles. One of the most exciting parts of the process was learning how to use a saw to make the axles the correct length. Our buses, ambulances and racing cars are on display in Year 1 for all to see!

The children in the nursery have been very busy this half term! They have been learning all about dinosaurs and know lots of interesting facts. They have also been busy getting creative, making stained glass dinosaurs to put on the window and cutting up paper plates and painting them to create their own dinosaur. The nursery children have also explored what happens when they mix colours and then used their hand prints to design their own dinosaur. Next they made their very own dinosaur masks and fossil using model magic. Dinosaurs are the best!

Eagerly, despite the rain, the year one children set off on their trip to The London Transport Museum. After a long journey in rush hour traffic, they were greeted by a bustling Covent Garden. Once inside the museum, the children got to explore three floors of varying transport through the ages. Everything from the first trains, trams and buses were on show and the children thoroughly enjoyed imagining they were children of years gone by.
A schools workshop 'Build a Bus' taught children about buses through the ages such as the Omnibus, B-Type Bus and Routemaster as we know today.
They also got a chance to explore the role play section of the museum, 'All Aboard'. This allowed them to imagine themselves as transport workers which they enjoyed.
All in all, a hugely successful school trip and somewhere we will definitely be visiting again.

Year 1 - Learn Outside
As the weather is getting warmer and the sun is shining, pupils in year 1 took the opportunity to take their learning outside. With the topic of fractions, the motivated mathematicians used chalks on the concrete to create four groups. Then they shared different quantities of cubes to find quarters. Everyone enjoyed themselves learning in the sunshine!

This term pupils in Year 2 are learning about plants in their science lessons. On Friday the eager scientists made the most of the beautiful sunshine and created observational drawings of the plants in the pond area. Everyone really enjoyed observing the variety of vegetation close up and demonstrating their developing sketching skills.

Year 5 - Get Creative
Last week, the children in Year 5 enjoyed a variety of different activities. These ranged from sewing to making personalised scrapbooks. As you can see from the pictures, all the children had a fantastic time and were able to take their crafts home with them - apart from the cakes and biscuits!
