In Topic, this half term, we are entering the exciting, exotic and lively territory of Rainforests.
We watched a video showing a rainforest, letting ourselves be immersed in the greenness and the lively sounds of the forest.
After that we took an imaginary journey through the forest , taking in what we could, hear, smell, touch, taste and finishing with drawing our favourite feature of the forest.
And this made us very, very curious about rainforests, so we wrote lots of questions about them on our question board.
We are all looking forward to learning more this half term about what's going on in these mysterious rainforests!

As the first half of the autumn term draws to a close, we'd like to say thank you to all our families for their continued support and wish everyone a relaxing half term holiday.
With school closed on Friday 20th October for staff training, we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 30th October, relaxed, recharged and ready for the second half term!
London Chamber Orchestra
Children from Year 4 and 5 visited Drapers Academy to listen to the London Chamber Orchestra perform several pieces. They were then joined by pupils from Havering Music School who performed alongside them. The musicians each told us about their instrument, what family their instrument belongs to and showed us how to make a sound. The children then had the opportunity to play the instruments and ask the musicians questions. It was a great afternoon.

We are currently studying Goodnight Mr Tom in our Literacy
lessons and we've reached a critical point of the story - war has been declared!
This week we identified the key features of news paper
reports and discussed the importance of the 5w's. We become news reporters for
the day, this allowed us to develop our vocabulary and build our ideas and
facts!
Languages Club
This week the children have been learning to write in Japanese during
languages lunchtime club with Mrs Mantecon. Well done everyone!
New Dinner Menu
Havering Catering Services have posted their updated school dinner menu for next term. Below is the new information from them and the new menu.

Nursery had a fantastic week reading Handa's surprise. We brought
in a variety of different fruits from home including mangos, pineapple, dragon fruit and passion
fruit. In our groups we talked about what they looked like and how
they felt. The melon was very heavy and the kiwi fruit was hairy. Then on the snack table we cut them up and tasted
them. We described how they
tasted, such as "The pineapple is juicy and sweet".

Our year 3 and 4 pupils were given a fantastic opportunity to brush up on their road safety knowledge this week when a Road Safety Presentation visited our school.
The main messages throughout the presentation included; wearing bright clothing, taking precautions when cycling, finding safe places to cross and being sensible near roads or on public transport.
The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were able to confidently share ideas and answer questions.
We look forward to providing the children with many more additional curriculum opportunities in the future!
