Stubbers Outdoor Centre has created two bespoke Learning Outside of the Classroom (LOTC) days to enable children to develop their independence, confidence, problem solving skills whilst working with their peers.
REWARD DAY A class can benefit from three adventurer packed activities designed to develop pupils confidence, build team morale all whilst having fun in the great outdoors
Activities included in the day are: • Commando Camp Using the assault course, plus children will develop fire and shelter building skills.
• Climbing Using either the “Rick Grice Memorial” outdoor 11 metre climbing wall or innovative 13 metre six sided climbing tower with graded climbs using bolt on holds. (Suitable for: Year 2 upwards)
• Archery Shoot for gold on Stubbers outdoor range. This activity develops children’s skill and confidence. (Suitable for: Year 2 upwards)
WOODLAND CONSTRUCTORS DAY
Children benefit from a day in the woodland, using hand and power tools to design and build tree houses and other wooden structures. This is a wonderful “hands off” programme where children receive only safety boundaries by supervisors who provide guidance only.
Additional information Stubber’s operates an instructor ratio of 1:10, dividing 30 students between three instructors, to manage the various activities. They recommend a 1:10 ratio for teachers also, although this is dependent on individual schools risk assessments. Children will be outside for the duration of the day, so will require warm clothing and footwear, including a hat and gloves, a packed lunch and a spare change of clothing in case of heavy rainfall.
