Reception enjoyed a fantastic opportunity to visit our pop-up Brazilian cafe this week. The children were excited to taste the delicious food and even learnt a little of the language while they were there! We would like to say a great big 'obrigado' to Mrs Mantecon for preparing all of the food.

Year 2 - Shine Week
In year 2 we have been really enjoying learning about Brazil in 'Shine Week'. We have learnt lots of facts and have written some great 'Brazil' acrostic poems.

Listening to the music of Brazil, pupils and staff in Year 6 just wanted to get up and dance! Inspired by the rhythm and beat of the drums, the budding musicians decided to create their own instruments.
Using rice, lentils or chickpeas, they filled plastic bottles and created their our own shakers. With three musical instruments to accompany them, they added in a bit of rhythm and a Samba beat creating their own Brazilian carnival! Listen out for our performance during the Shine Assembly.

Year 6 Shine Week Day 2 - Brazilian Bonbons!
Year 6 were been busy perfecting their skills of being Chocolatiers on Tuesday afternoon! Brazilian Bonbons were simple to make, using only condensed milk, butter and cocoa powder. With a delicious chocolate aroma wafting along the corridor, the year 6 pupils mixed, melted and rolled their bonbons to form perfect spheres of chocolate delight! Having decorated each bonbon with edible glitter, sugar hearts, chocolate sprinkles and popping candy, the highlight of the afternoon was the tasting: sweet with a gooey brownie-like consistency - DELICIOUS!
Presented in a bespoke gift box, three of the tasty treats were packaged up to be taken home...I wonder how many arrived there!

Hilldene Pupils Shine!
With the World Cup well
under way, staff and pupils at Hilldene have embraced the theme of Brazil this
week for our annual 'Shine' week. Throughout the week, pupils will be learning
about Brazilian culture through a range of exciting activities.
Year 5 - A taste of Brazil!
Yesterday, we had the opportunity to visit the Brazilian Cafe, where we tasted lots of exciting Brazilian foods, such as Freijada con Queijo (Bread with Cheese) and Carne Ensopada con Legumes (Beef Stew). We thought the beef stew was delicious! Some of us, however, found the coconut milk to be a bit sour and creamy! We all had a splendid time at the cafe. Abrigado, Miss Mantecon, for organising the fantastic Brazilian Cafe!
