The children enjoyed 'Cardboard Box Day' creating castles, vehicles, houses, robots and much more! The children were given a choice of boxes, tape, glue, pens, paper, material and large pegs, they were then given the chance to make whatever they wanted. Their imagination and problem solving skills were clear to see. Well done nursery!

KS2 Playground Makeover

Part of the remit of the school council this year was to improve the outdoor area for KS2 pupils. The first part of this process has now been completed - the new playground signs, that were chosen by the school council, have been put up around the main playground area and have already created lots of interest amongst the pupils.

Part two of the process will hopefully take place during the spring half term (weather permitting) and involves new playground markings.

Once this project has been finished, we will begin to consult the children on possible improvements for the KS1 playground area. However, such improvements are likely to place during/after the summer holidays.

Golden Book Winners!

Every week, teachers identify 2 outstanding pupils in their class who have had a fantastic week either academically or socially or both! These pupils are entered into the Golden Book and are announced during our Friday morning celebration assembly. Our fabulous winners in the infants receive a
certificate in assembly and parents of the 'golden' children in the juniors receive a letter home, informing parents of their child's fantastic achievement.

Back on the Balance Bikes!

Friday afternoon saw the first session of Balance Bike training for this academic year. After the success of the sessions last year in Year 1, class 1M were again the first class in take part in the training. After initially becoming familiar with the different parts of a bicycle (including the saddle and handlebars) the children were then able to start moving around the playground on their bikes.

Most of the session then involved the children acting like giraffes or frogs as they learnt to improve their control of their bikes. One group even managed to finish the session by creating a bike snake, something all the children will be practising more of in the coming weeks.

Despite a couple of minor incidents, all of the children really enjoyed the session and were definitely looking forward to the next time they could be ‘let loose’ on their balance bikes!

Congratulations to Hilldene Minecraft Club!

We were the number one club in the Autumn Term, top of the Leaderboard with 127 points!
Thank you so much to everyone that has been voting for Hilldene each week.
All the children that have attended the club last half term will receive a prize in celebration assembly this week and we received some Minecraft Annuals for the school!

Our club started again this week and our new theme this half term is The Deep Blue Sea.
