Friday afternoon saw the first session of Balance Bike
training for this academic year. After the success of the sessions last year in
Year 1, class 1M were again the first class in take part in the training. After
initially becoming familiar with the different parts of a bicycle (including
the saddle and handlebars) the children were then able to start moving around
the playground on their bikes.
Most of the session then involved the children acting like
giraffes or frogs as they learnt to improve their control of their bikes. One
group even managed to finish the session by creating a bike snake, something
all the children will be practising more of in the coming weeks.
Despite a couple of minor incidents, all of the children
really enjoyed the session and were definitely looking forward to the next time
they could be ‘let loose’ on their balance bikes!
