On Wednesday Year 6 went to Braintree District Museum to support their learning about World War II. Dressed as evacuees, the enthusiastic historians took part in a variety of activities. Through role play they were able to experience an air raid and subsequent evacuation to the countryside. They travelled back in time to school in 1939, where they met an extremely strict teacher who taught them maths using shilling and pence. After lunch there was time to see and touch a range of historical artefacts, including pieces of bombs, uniforms, identity cards and tins of powdered egg. It was an extremely interesting day and they were able to see history come to life.

On Thursday 29th November our new JTAs welcomed the rest of the editorial team for the next edition of Taking Steps to Hilldene to discuss ideas about all about walking. The children’s suggestions included writing poems, researching about walking sports and discovering new parks to explore in Havering.

Classes 1M and 1D enjoyed a brisk walk to Hilldene Library this week taking in the sights of our local environment. Viv our local librarian, read us a fantastic story about a wombat who loved carrots and ended up on Father Christmas sleigh. Viv also showed us where to find the fiction and non fiction books and gave us a form so we could all join the library!
Ms McKinnon and Miss Dhillon were so proud that we all went on the star and are going to share our certificates in celebration assembly on Friday. 1C are looking forward to their visit next Monday.
