On Wednesday Year 6 went to Braintree District Museum to support their learning about World War II. Dressed as evacuees, the enthusiastic historians took part in a variety of activities. Through role play they were able to experience an air raid and subsequent evacuation to the countryside. They travelled back in time to school in 1939, where they met an extremely strict teacher who taught them maths using shilling and pence. After lunch there was time to see and touch a range of historical artefacts, including pieces of bombs, uniforms, identity cards and tins of powdered egg. It was an extremely interesting day and they were able to see history come to life.
