Year 2- Literacy Week

Monday, 11 March 2019

We have had a very busy week learning about George’s Marvellous Medicine and have participated in lots of exciting activities.

On Monday we started reading the story and discussed all the interesting things George used to create his medicine. We learnt about alliteration and described the different ingredients. It was lots of fun reading our ingredients aloud to our friends.

After learning all about the story on Monday, we went on a time travelling experience in a literacy workshop. We thought about the different parts of the story and the characters’ feelings and actions. It was lots of fun pretending to be a cauldron as a class and adding in the different ingredients we found on our travels.

On Wednesday we were really excited to be able to visit the different rooms in George’s house. First, we went to the kitchen and saw all of the interesting ingredients George used in the story. The shed, bathroom and bedroom were also super exciting to visit. We remembered lots of the ingredients from the story and were able to see them in the different rooms.

On Thursday, we wrote our own poisonous potion poems and used alliteration to describe the ingredients. We have been practising our reading and took it in turns to read our poems aloud.

After all of our busy learning experiences, we really enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day on Friday. We looked at all of the different Roald Dahl books and have shared our love for reading with our families, friends and teachers.
