Egyptian embalming at Hilldene

Year 4 have taken a journey back in time to become Ancient Egyptian embalming apprentices!

As pharaohs are in short supply in Harold Hill, we decided  to practise on tomatoes.  First, we named our tomato mummies with authentic Egyptian names such as Ra, Ammon and Isis.  The next step was to slice open their heads, scoop out their brains and fill them with a special salt mixture, similar to that used in ancient times, called Natron.

After the mummy had been filled with Natron, we placed them in their plastic cup sarcophaguses and covered them in the remaining salt. They were now ready to be placed in their cardboard box tomb to allow the preservation process to begin.....

We will find out if it has worked in a week, if they don't escape in the meantime.....
